Tending The Sheep

Waiting...it's not always an easy process. Waiting for the job interviewer to call you back, waiting for the baby to come, waiting for that new Christmas gift to arrive in the mail, waiting for your paycheck to come, waiting for a vacation....waiting.

A lot has happened in this last year, and if I'm being honest a lot of changes have been made. Someone asked me today if they were good changes or bad changes, my answer was, "They were mostly all good changes (a few bad), but they were also hard ones."
At the beginning of this year my family flew in from being in Florida on our boat trip to attend my uncles funeral, a few months later we returned home for good and completely finished our boating adventure, a few months after that I was engaged, and a few weeks later I found myself heartbroken and no longer engaged, for the remainder of the year things like a new job, a new haircut, a new car, losing some friends, and making  some great new ones came along. Change. One thing after another, until suddenly it all came to a stop.
Don't get me wrong, after all the big changes this year I'm thankful for a break, but I will be the first to admit that I'm not the most patient human on earth either! So, here I am, waiting, I'm not even sure what for, but something will come again because that's life.

Recently, I've been going over a Bible Study with a dear friend of mine and the title is called "Wait and See." It's a full study recalling stories of other people who waited for certain things to happen in their lives. You follow along on this study and read their hearts and how they felt. Just a few days ago I read my favorite one so far. This time they told a story from the Bible, it was the story of King David.   It said this,
"David was approximately ten years old when he was anointed king. He was not old enough or experienced enough to be king. Simply put, he wasn't ready for the throne. However, his time as a shepherd had prepared him to be king. Like David's, our pasture experience will mature and develop us for the next season of life. Lingering in our field will teach us the trustworthiness of God and the vastness of His ways...........Regardless if we like it, it is necessary for Jesus's followers to embrace the pasture and tend to our sheep, as well as be willing to take a few steps toward leaving our current pasture."

This spoke to me on so many levels, I'm currently in my pasture, but I've been so busy looking out onto the horizon, waiting for what's next that I haven't been waiting well. I need, well, we all need to tend to our sheep while we're waiting. Work on ourselves and, most importantly, our growing relationship with our Heavenly Father. Remembering how His words says that He knows the plans He has for us. Knowing that He is the one in control and you could wait a few days, weeks, months or even years because His timing is not ours. We need to trust Him with all things, especially while we're tending our sheep.

Your year could have been like mine, and your 2018 could be like mine too. Full of tending to sheep and waiting for the unknown to come along. Know that you're not alone! We don't have to enter this next year with a plan, because we all know He already has one written for us, and there's nothing we can do to stop it. His plan will always prevail. So let's work on our trust in Him, and lets enter this new year tending to our sheep. Who knows, maybe it's gonna prepare us to be a king or queen someday ;)

I hope you all have an amazing Christmas and an even better New Year! :)
